Silver sparkle on blueberry  festival

NACOGDOCHES - The 25th Annual Texas Blueberry Festival presented by Brookshire Brothers is June 13-14 in downtown Nacogdoches, and festival volunteers are cooking up new events that will compliment the returning activities that thousands enjoy. The festival is produced by the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce.

“We're painting the web blue with an all new TexasBlueberryFestival.com in honor of our 25th year,” said festival chairGrace Handler. “This visitor-centered website designed by Point A Media showcases the family fun, history and, of course, fruit. So check the site often for updates on the super sweet things planned for this year’s festival.”

The Blueberry Festival of Quilts opens Friday morning, June 13, at Fredonia Hill Baptist Church, and later that day, all are invited to a Friday Night Blueberry Blast in downtown Festival Park. Plan to attend this new family-friendly, free admission event with music and a kid’s Bounce Park.

On Saturday, June 14, the festival begins at 8 a.m., with sweet blueberry entertainment, arts and craft vendors, tasty treats, car and motorcycle shows and much more.

“Two other added silver anniversary festival celebrations are a Berry Vine Evening progressive dinner hosted by downtown businesses,” Handler said, “and 25 Days of Blueberry - where businesses throughout the community will hold mini-festivals with blueberry flair and will build up to the big festival day!” Details on these and all festival events can be found at TexasBlueberryFestival.com.

“We’re expecting a large turnout of vendors for the 25th Annual Texas Blueberry festival,” said festival logistics co-chair Polly Etta Sunda. “Over the years we have worked to increase our vendor involvement so that a majority of our booths are unique, hard-to-find handmade items, and we continue to encourage these types of vendors to come to our festival. We promise there will be something for everyone!”

The festival Vendor Application is available, and the deadline to submit an application is May 9.

Handler invites all past festival attendees to “please contact us to share your stories of festivals past as we celebrate a quarter of a century tradition in the oldest town in Texas.” Photos and comments can be emailed to business@nactx.comor post items to the festival’s Facebook and Twitter pages using #TxBlueberryFest.
