Few days are more important in Texas history than the Battle at San Jacinto on April 21, 1836, when Sam Houston and the Texians defeated the armies of Santa Anna. History was never the same. Members of the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Historic Nacogdoches, the Daughters of the Republic of Texas, and the students and faculty of Nacogdoches Independent School District are all joining together to celebrate the day in one form or another.

Chamber members are invited to gather at 2:30 in Oak Grove Cemetery where a seedling from the live oak at the Alamo will be planted in memorial to the volunteers who gave their lives in the fight for Texas Independence.

Following the tree planting, all will walk down the street and have a little party in celebration at the home of Adolphus Sterne on South Lanana Street.

Any chamber members who cannot attend these festivities are encouraged to stop sometime during the day and lift a glass in remembrance and say with their fellow Nacogdoches citizens, “Hurrah for Texas!”
