The Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce 89th Annual Meeting and Membership Banquet is Tuesday, Sept. 28, at Hotel Fredonia. The event begins at 6 p.m. with a raffle and social hour. Dinner is served at 7 p.m. The Gary Justice Business Excellence Award recipients and Citizen of the Year will be honored, and the 2010-11 chamber board of directors will be inducted at the event.
Betty Shinn is event chairwoman, and members of the event committee are Charlotte Ashcraft, Corey Ashley, Donna Finley, Jessica Henderson, Laurie McCollough, Dr. Carolyn Mitchell, Scarlett Sloane, Paul Smith III, Roby Somerford, Francis Spruiell and Dr. Kavita Vyas.
“This is the eighth year I’ve chaired the event planning committee, but I’ve been involved in planning the chamber’s annual banquet many more years than that,” Shinn said. “I’ve always supported the Nacogdoches chamber, and event planning is what I do. Peggy Jasso asked that I chair the event when she served as chair of the board of directors, and every board chairperson has asked me to lead the committee since then.”
According to chamber Membership and Marketing Manager Kelly Daniel, this year’s event offers more sponsor opportunities for businesses. “Gold and silver level sponsorships are opportunities to attach business names to a well-known and respected community event,” Daniel said. “Sponsors need to be confirmed by Sept. 16 to receive all the benefits available.” Contact the chamber, call 560-5533 or go to Nacogdoches.org, for more information.
A tabloid produced by The Daily Sentinel will be inserted in the Sunday, Sept. 26 issue of the Sentinel. The piece will provide the vision for the new chamber year by Francis Spruiell, incoming chair of the board of directors, and an overview the chamber’s committees and the projects and activities the chamber organizes in the community. The piece will also be distributed to the expected 500 guests at the annual meeting and banquet and throughout the year to new chamber members. Advertising space is available in the Sentinel publication. Contact Staci Hodges at the Sentinel, 564-8361, for information by Sept. 7.
