Texas Department of State Health Services Partners with Locals to Host COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic
Posted 01/13/2021

The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) recently contacted Nacogdoches emergency management officials with an opportunity to distribute 1000 COVID-19 vaccines. The City of Nacogdoches and Nacogdoches County agreed to partner with the state by providing a location and logistical support through its community-based vaccination model in a shot clinic Thursday, January 14.

Overseen by two local physician groups, multiple Nacogdoches healthcare providers, health clinics and hospitals were asked to identify and contact their most high-risk patients who qualify for the vaccine under Phase 1B requirements. Providers then scheduled patients within designated time slots for tomorrow’s closed clinic at the Nacogdoches County civic center.

Walk-ins will not be accommodated as all appointments have been filled.

Qualified individuals who have not received the vaccine but desire one are encouraged to monitor the state’s updated vaccine provider map at bit.ly/3oDhjHu for vaccine availability.

Persons should contact these local or surrounding area providers for vaccine instructions. Additionally, DSHS has organized 28 large vaccination hubs throughout the state this week. All Phase 1A and 1B individuals are eligible to receive a vaccine at these hubs regardless of where
they reside. Hub locations, contact information, and registration sites can be found at bit.ly/3qjZOMP.

Brookshire Brothers pharmacy recently launched an online portal to sign up for a COVID-19 vaccine waiting list at BrookshireBrothers.com/covid-19 . While this particular waiting list will not be used for tomorrow’s shot clinic, officials anticipate many opportunities in the coming months to distribute vaccine doses.

Nacogdoches has received a limited supply of vaccines-- 3,100 doses for a population of 65,000. As supply increases and Nacogdoches is provided additional allotments, emergency management personnel will continue to coordinate with providers to distribute the vaccine efficiently and equitably. A more centralized scheduling system, easily accessible to all, is under development.

The joint Nacogdoches Call Center is available to answer questions at 936-468-4784 Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm. Information can also be found on the City website at https://www.nactx.us/covid19, the County website at co.nacogdoches.tx.us/covid-19 and the
