Former stand-up and improvisational comedian Dr. Adam Peck will present “Harnessing the Power to Create: Lessons from Improvisational Comedy” at the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce Fourth Friday Luncheon, April 23, noon to 1 p.m., at the Fredonia.

“Studies have demonstrated that thinking creatively is a skill and can be taught. We can learn to generate more innovative ideas without a lot of the usual hang-ups,” Peck said. “At the luncheon, I’ll touch on the skills to make better decisions, to lead others more effectively, to come up with more creative ideas and to get them implemented.”

 According to Peck, drawing upon the lessons he has learned from teaching improvisational comedy to both professional and amateur comedians gives his presentation a focus on practical approaches for thinking more creatively.

Peck currently serves as Dean of Student Affairs at SFA. During the early days of his career, while teaching theatre and communication studies, his students jokingly referred to him as "welcome back Kotter." Peck was a teacher by day and a comedian by night. 

The luncheon serves as the chamber’s monthly membership meeting. Registration is required by Thursday, April 22. Lunch is $16 at the door. About Adam Peck - Peck has performed with Comedy Sportz, The Einstein Design and on the St. Louis area television program MidCoast Mania. During his time in comedy, he also served as director of training for Comedy Sportz and City improvisational comedy clubs. He blends his engaging and funny style with the research to back up the things that he says. Peck earned a Ph.D. in Higher Education from The University of Texas at Austin. He publishes and speaks regularly on topics as varied as cultivating school spirit, making effective and ethical decisions, and creating engaging marketing. Peck resides in Nacogdoches with his wife Michele and two children.
