Nacogdoches Independent School District (NISD) is a beneficiary of a grant to Neuhaus Education Center from the T.L.L. Temple Foundation Grant in the amount of $124,000!
NISD District Literacy Specialist Jennifer Simmons presented information about the grant to NISD Superintendent Sandra Dowdy and the NISD Board of Trustees during a special board meeting on June 8th.
To make the district literacy program more balanced with direct explicit phonics instruction, the district will be training its prekindergarten through third grade teachers with Neuhaus' professional learning for teaching the structure of language.
The Temple Foundation will pay for personnel for ALL training sessions, implementation walks, and data collection allowing NISD to only spend $22,064 for teacher and student materials.
"This is an amazing opportunity for our administrators, teachers and students thanks to the T.L.L. Temple Foundation Grant through Neuhaus," said Simmons.
The grant covers the following:
Certified Neuhaus Trainers for all training sessions - including their travel and expenses
District Leadership: Launching Literacy - district administrators, principals, curriculum coaches
Language and Literacy for Young Learners - prekindergarten teachers
Reading Readiness and Planning Evidence-Based Lessons - kindergarten teachers
Language Enrichment and Implementation Coaching - 1st - 3rd grade teachers
Teacher Refreshers for Reading Readiness and Language Enrichment - previously trained teachers
Neuhaus faculty will conduct Implementation Walks throughout the year to provide observations and feedback for our teachers and curriculum coaches
Neuhaus will gather data that will be reviewed by Neuhaus and a third-party evaluator to create a final report for the foundation and NISD
