The East Texas Epilepsy Family Conference will be held in Nacogdoches at Stephen F. Austin State University, Shelton Center on May 9th, 2015, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. The purpose of this conference is to provide education for parents of children and youth with epilepsy.
This half-day conference will deliver educational sessions to empower parents, youth, clinical professionals, teachers, and care-givers with the latest information on medication and seizures, managing epilepsy at school, and tips on creating a “new normal” environment with family and friends. Texas Parent to Parent will provide information and support to families with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and other healthcare needs. CHSCN (Children with Special Health Care Needs) of Texas Department of State Health Services Title V will provide important information on healthcare transition from youth to adulthood. Other topics include Get Fit and Life Transition given by the Epilepsy Foundation.
For the children and youth, a basketball clinic with Mike Simmel “Mighty Mike” motivational speaker and basketball trick superstar who had epilepsy as a child, will be in attendance to entertain the youth and motivate through basketball.
