Makerspace at the Public Library
Posted 02/04/2015

(Nacogdoches, TX) – The Judy B. McDonald Public Library invites teens and tweens to the next Makerspace program designed to develop creativity and confidence by providing teens with tools, materials and the knowledge to use them. The next installment of the program will be Stick Bombs, kinetic sculptures that mix mechanics with art and explode apart in chain reactions. The program will be Monday, February 9th at 5:30 p.m. “The Makerspace has developed from the programs we’ve been offering teens and tweens for some time,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director. “We’re presenting STEM concepts through fun and creative approaches aimed at encouraging and challenging our young patrons to master new skills. We want them to feel empowered in the knowledge that if they can imagine something, they can make it happen through old-fashioned elbow grease and trial and error.” Future Makerspace programs will include learning to solder and build electronic circuit boards and microcontrollers, as well as creating stop motion movies. Please call 559-2970 to register tweens and teens 10 – 17 years old.
