Nacogdoches ISD employees, campuses and departments pooled funds to purchase more than 60 bikes, five scooters and three overflowing Toys for Tots boxes of gifts to give to local children this holiday season.
The district’s Plant Services department loaded the goodies on to their makeshift sleighs and delivered two flatbed trailers’ worth to Toys for Tots organizer Ronnie Bowser.
Bowser expressed his appreciation for the special delivery and noted that the bike donations “greatly help” his organization fill children’s wish lists.
This is the third year for Nacogdoches ISD to organize the school-wide bike and toy drive. Walmart helped the district stretch its funds by offering the best sales prices for the bulk purchases.
Superintendent Dr. Fred Hayes said he is thankful for the outpouring of generosity by staff and students. “We hope that these gifts will bring smiles to the children who receive them this Christmas,” he said.
