THE NUTCRACKER BALLET is Holiday Perfection
Dec. 13 & 14 at the Temple Theater
The world’s most beloved Christmas taleTHE NUTCRACKERcomes to life on the Temple Theater stage December 13 at 7:30 pm and December 14 at 2:30 pm. Set to Tchaikovsky’s beloved score, THE NUTCRACKER is, by far, the most widely attended ballet in America, which has been confirmed here in Lufkin by the huge demand for tickets. This production of THE NUTCRACKER is choreographed and directed by founder of Mejia Ballet International, Paul Mejia, a well-recognized name in ballet. Mejia is a former principal dancer under the famous choreographer George Balanchine at New York City Ballet. He danced principal roles in many Balanchine ballets. Mejia’s production of The Nutcracker continues the holiday tradition of this very popular ballet for the whole family. Seventy local dance students will perform alongside the professional Mejia International Ballet company dancers. The local dancers auditioned and went through weeks of rehearsals led by local instructors, Susan Koon of Susan’s Studio of Dance, and Katie Parr of Gobel School of Dance.
“Both shows are sold out, but I’m confident that if you want to see this show I can get you in. First, call the box office at (936) 633-5454 and get on the waiting list,”stated Kristie Bailey, Box Office Manager. She explained that tickets are often returned at the last minute due to a change of plans, or as an illness. “When that happens we are able to offer half-price seats starting one hour before curtain, and $20 RUSH Tickets 10 minutes before curtain. Rather than those seats go un-used, theaters coined the name ‘RUSH tickets’ for those empty seats that at the last minute patrons ‘rushed’ to claim.” Presented by the Angelina Arts Alliance, THE NUTCRACKER –Mejia Ballet Internationalis sponsored by CHI St. Luke’s Health, Urgent Doc, and The Heart Institute of East Texas. Tickets range from $30-$45 (Premium/Box $55) Children under 17 are half- price. 2014-2015 Season sponsors are First Bank and Trust East Texas and Georgia Pacific. College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, joins music.
