Abby Root is named as Volunteer of the Month for March. Our Volunteer teaches Culinary 2 classes at Lufkin High School and with that she has trained many students to plan, prepare and present amazing cuisines for many school and community events. For example, she had nine “Best of Show” winners that made the sale at the recent Angelina County Fair. These students received hundreds of dollars to use toward college in the fall. She teaches her students to plan and prepare meals for the press box coaches at the Lufkin Panther home games. Plus, she challenges students on “cook-offs” like the popular Chopped TV series. The students love it! Because of her job, she is called quite often for “favors” in the community. Without hesitation, she always steps up and has her students help! As a new member of The League, she is finding ways to dedicate her time, talents and resources. She is involved with the Parent Academy and Spring Market.
Diana Hineman was given a “Pat on the Back” Award for all of her hard work writing grants for the Junior League of Lufkin.
