NISD to gather, distribute books to highlight
importance of reading as a family
NACOGDOCHES — Nacogdoches ISD’s focus on reading takes a holiday twist this year with the “Snuggle Up with a Book” drive.
Through the drive the district wants to remind families that Christmas break is a great time to take a few moments and read together — whether it’s one book read aloud or each family member selecting something to read quietly.
NISD campuses and departments, with help from Hastings Book and Music, will be collecting new children’s books for ages 0-18 and family-friendly books for adults.
The district invites the community to become involved by donating books, as well. Donations can be dropped off at any NISD campus front office; at the District Support Center, 420 S. Shawnee; or at Hastings Book and Music, 4501 North Street.
Books collected then will be given to the community on Dec. 14 at five different locations around Nacogdoches. Details on the distribution will be announced at a later date.
Through the book drive, the district is encouraging the community to read to its youth, and for adults to read for enjoyment and to expand their knowledge base. Reading is essential to learning and to being a productive and educated person at any age.
