NACOGDOCHES — Nacogdoches High School graduate Roxanne Lathan has been selected to lead Thomas J. Rusk Academy of Fine Arts this fall.
Lathan originally was hired by NISD to be an assistant principal for McMichael Middle School. However, after former TJR principal Malinda Lindsey took the role as NISD director of curriculum, Lathan was transferred to fill the role.
The Nacogdoches native comes to NISD from Garland ISD where she most recently served as an assistant principal after teaching in the district from 2004-2012.
“[Lathan’s] experience as a campus administrator in a district that was innovative and successful has provided her an opportunity to come to our district and help us out,” said assistant superintendent of academic services Dr. Sandra Stewart.
Lathan received her bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas-Dallas in Interdisciplinary Studies and went on to earn her master’s from the University of Phoenix.
“She is open to working with groups of teachers, and her love for teaching along with her ability to build relationships makes her a perfect fit,” Stewart said. “She has an extremely strong instructional background and we are excited to have her.”
