The City of Nacogdoches is currently conducting a study to determine the retail strength of downtown as well as to determine what kind of business residents of Nacogdoches would like to see open in historic downtown Nacogdoches. The survey will also seek data on whether or not the respondent is an SFA student, if they are male or female, and what age bracket they fall into in order to compare the wants and needs of those attending SFA, males and females, and different ages.
“We would really like to capture as many SFASU students as possible,” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien, “they are the most underserved market in our historic downtown district and we want their opinions.” East Downtown Nacogdoches currently comprises 14 blocks of retail space. Current businesses in downtown include retailers, dining, professional services, non-profit organizations, service organizations, art, and fitness. The survey hopes to find the extent to which citizens are satisfied with the current businesses in downtown, and if not satisfied, what businesses would they like to see opened. Residents, students and all interested parties are encouraged to visit the City’s website at www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us and fill out the survey. The survey will be active until April 1st. This is a special project of City Administration intern David Marshall, who will graduate this May.
