NACOGDOCHES – Parents have until Friday to apply for their children to attend one of Nacogdoches Independent School District’s innovative magnet schools.
Children with interests in the arts, science and technology or learning a second language are perfect candidates for one of the three elementary-level schools.
Magnet school openings available — including for students outside of the NISD attendance zone — for the 2013-14 school year include spots in kindergarten, first and second grades at Emeline Carpenter Academy of Technology and Science , Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language, and Thomas J. Rusk Academy of Fine Arts.
Applications are available on the district web site at NacISD.org, on all elementary campuses and at the NISD District Service Support Center, 420 S. Shawnee.
Students need to apply only if they wish to attend a magnet school outside of their home attendance zone. The district will notify parents in April as to whether the application was granted.
