Texas Country Reporter is ag banquet keynote speaker
NACOGDOCHES – The 13th annual Nacogdoches County Agriculture Appreciation and Awareness Banquet honors the agriculture industry in Nacogdoches County – one of the state’s top ten agricultural producing counties. How fitting that Texas Country Reporter host Bob Phillips will be the guest speaker at the event.
The banquet is Monday, Apr. 8 at the Hotel Fredonia Convention Center. Exhibits will be ready to view at 6 p.m., dinner service begins at 6:30 p.m. and the program starts at 7 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

“Over the years Nacogdoches County has been blessed with leaders in the agricultural community that understand the importance of technology and innovation in agricultural production,” said Chamber Vice Chair of Business Development, Rusty Rust, Commercial Bank of Texas. “The banquet is an event where county residents gather to recognize the importance of agriculture and the dedicated individuals providing agriculture products in our county.”
Phillips is well-known in Nacogdoches, in part because of his association with the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau. “CVB Director Melissa Sanford worked closely with us to help us secure Mr. Phillips,” Bruce Partain, Chamber CEO said. “In fact, without the CVB, there is not a way we could afford to bring his talent, charisma and authentic Texas charm to Nacogdoches.”
Four awards will be presented this year:
The Bubba Stokes Family is Farm Family of the Year; award sponsored by Tipton Ford, Inc.
Roy Mills is the Pete Smith Agricultural Pioneer; award sponsored by Heritage Land Bank.
Nacogdoches Farm Bureau will receive the Agribusiness of the Year Award; award sponsored by First Bank & Trust East Texas.
SFASU’s Elyce Rodewald will receive the Agriculture Educator of the Year award. The award is sponsored by Citizens 1st Bank.
Banquet tickets are $27 each or $275 per table of eight and are available now at the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce, 2516 North St. Businesses are welcome to sponsor tables to provide complimentary admission for youth ag groups. A limited number of free exhibitor spaces are available to Nacogdoches County agriculture-based industry and organizations. To obtain more exhibitor information, call Debbie Sanford at Texas Agrilife Extension Service, 560-7711. Deadline to reserve exhibit space is Apr. 5. Booths must be set up by 5 p.m., Apr. 8, and removed by 9:30 p.m.
The Nacogdoches Agribusiness committee consists of representatives from Nacogdoches County Farm Bureau, Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce, Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau, Nacogdoches Economic Development Corp., Texas AgriLife Extension Service, Cooperative Extension Program, Pineywoods RC&D, Stephen F. Austin State University - Agriculture Department and the Texas Forest Service.
