NACOGDOCHES — Students can have fun while engaging their minds this summer at one of the many education camps available in Nacogdoches and the surrounding area.
All Nacogdoches ISD recognized Gifted and Talented students can apply for scholarships to take part.
Each summer Region VII offers hundreds of educational camps for K-12 students to step out of the traditional classroom and into a world of learning like none other. This year, Stephen F. Austin State University is partnering with NISD incoming 9th graders to offer a four-day camp designed to challenge students mathematically and scientifically through real-life, interactive, hands-on, problem solving elements and expose them to possible careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Scholarships cover the registration fees for any camp in which a student is accepted. Parents will be responsible for transportation.
Scholarship applications are due Friday, March 8th. Each application seeks a student essay, parent recommendation, and teacher recommendation. All parts must be completed, stapled, and returned to your G/T representative in time to meet the deadline.
Applications are available online at www.nacisd.org under the Student Resources tab, along with a list of offered courses, and at each campus. Incomplete applications cannot be screened.
Campus G/T representatives are as follows:
· Nakendra Matthews – Emeline Carpenter Academy of Technology and Science
· Ashley Hankins and Eva Witcher – Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language
· Joyce Garcia – Fredonia Elementary
· Angela Allen – Thomas J. Rusk Academy of Fine Arts
· Jo Lynn Corley – Brooks Quinn Jones Elementary
· Kristy Jurecka – Raguet Elementary
· Barbara Masten – McMichael Middle School
· Sonja Schulz – Mike Moses Middle School
· Kristin Thomas – Nacogdoches High School
Applicants awarded a scholarship within the last three years are not eligible to receive a scholarship this year.
