NISD schools honor those
who have served our country

NACOGDOCHES – Nacogdoches schools are doing their part to recognize United States veterans with special observations and participation in the local parade.

On Friday morning during Jumpstart festivities, Nettie Marshall Academy of Dual Language faculty and students will discuss the meaning of Veteran’s Day and why we honor it.  They plan to sing the National Anthem, observe a moment of silence to remember those who have served our country and recognize any veterans in attendance.

On Saturday morning, Nacogdoches students will participate in the annual Veteran’s Day Parade on the downtown brick streets.

Those Nacogdoches Independent School District groups participating in the festivities include Nacogdoches High School Golden Dragon Marching Band, Key Club, Students of Color, the cheerleading squads and Dragonettes.  Also taking part in the parade are the McMichael and Mike Moses Middle School bands.

But the celebration doesn’t end there.

On Monday morning, Brooks Quinn Jones Elementary will host a Veteran’s Day Program to honor the men and women who have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard.

The program begins at 8:30 a.m. and includes a special musical presentation from the BQJ second grade students. Nacogdoches local and former United States Air Force Captain Reggie Hudson will serve as guest speaker.

Students from all grade levels will attend, and the school plans to recognize and honor those veterans in attendance. A reception will follow for all guests.
