The 15th annual Blueberry Golf Bash, hosted by the Nacogdoches County Chamber and presented by MyPlates.com, welcomed 144 golfers Friday, May 4, at Piney Woods Country Club. Ben Wright and Fern Simmons co-chaired the event, leading a team of several dozen volunteers.
“We added several new features this year,”Simmons said. “We offered both morning and afternoon tee times and expanded the awards.”
As golfers worked up hearty appetites, Piney Woods Country Club provided breakfast, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers provided lunch and LugNutz Sports Bar & Grill served a fajita dinner. Golfers looked sharp in official tournament caps from Texas Farm Products, and slaked their thirst with Best Water from water sponsor Wells Fargo Advisors.
“The Blueberry Golf Bash raises funds the Chamber uses to provide services to members, newcomers and Nacogdoches visitors,” Wright said.
Results:
Top Gross scoring team with an 18 under par 54 was Morgan Insurance. Finishing second with a 16 under par 56 was the “Nooners” team.
Top Net team was Badders Law Firm with a score of 51.5. Second was Point A Media, scoring 52.3. Coming in third net was R&K Distributors with a 53.0 and fourth net was Brookshire Brothers with a 53.2.
A special 15th Place award (in recognition of the tourney’s 15th anniversary) went to Dr. Tony Haskins’ team with a net score of 56.6.
Jessica Henderson scored the women’s longest drive. Rusty Harris took closest to the pin honors on #12 and Richie Cook did the same on #6.
Several golfers were close - but not close enough – to claim the $25,000 hole-in-one award sponsored by Curtis & Clark Energy Services on the ninth hole.
Chamber Chairman Lee Smith observed that “near-perfect weather and a course in fine condition helped our golfers enjoy another excellent day of networking and fellowship. We thank our volunteers, sponsors, golfers and Piney Woods Country Club.”
