The Texas Blueberry Festival, presented by Brookshire Brothers, will bring more than 20 acts of live entertainment on three stages in downtown Nacogdoches. The festival is 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, June 12.

A rip-roarin’ duo, Cowboy Max and Jack Dagger, will ride in for two Max and Dagger Show performances on the Festival Plaza stage at 8:30 and 10:10 a.m. With Max wielding bullwhips and Jack flinging knives it is a wild west show for the whole family.

"If a blueberry escapes uneaten I'll round it up with my bullwhip, and Jack Dagger will pin it down with his knives," Cowboy Max said. "The dangerous thrills of target bullwhips and knives will leave even the bravest blueberry beyond belief."

Jack Dagger, the world champion knife thrower (The Tonight Show), is all set to do his death defying show. However, bullwhip buckaroo Cowboy Max is set to do his, too.

According to Jack Dagger, the stage isn’t big enough for the both of them. “Looks like there’s only one way to settle this - a duel,” he said.

Will Max’s wooly chaps protect him from a barrage of blades? Will Jack survive as Max whips it and whips it good? The battle builds until the not-to-be-believed mid-air fire finale.

“The Max and Dagger Show is a special treat for our festival guests,” entertainment chair Brianna Lewis said. “There’s quite a variety of entertainment scheduled throughout the day sure to please all festival guests.”

Lewis organized a musical performance line up that includes acoustic, blues, rock, Christian, folk, Americana and gospel genres. Other acts include the Rhythm Rocker Cloggers and the Boys and Girls Club of East Texas gymnastics group.

“Local favorites are returning such as Cindy Grayson, Jon Hall, Buffalograss and Ally Fuller,” Lewis said. “Many are traveling from other cities, and Zay Santos is coming in from New Mexico on his tour through Texas to play at the blueberry festival.”

Performance schedules for the three stages are available in the Texas Blueberry Festival events listing at nacogdoches.org.
