Steele’s in Nacogdoches and Townsquare Media are helping the Nacogdoches High School Golden Dragon Band raise funds for its spring trip.
“We are so thankful for their help raising money to help our students go on their trip,” said Racheal Thumann, secretary for the band booster organization.
Steele’s has placed a collection box in its local store to collect donations through Nov. 1, and the stores corporate office also plans to give toward the cause.
This school year, the band will head to Orlando, Fla., May 1-4 to perform at a national competition. Each band member going on the trip will pay $1,300. The band booster organization helps fill gaps for those students who have worked hard at raising funds but come up a little short.
“We want to help ensure they go after working so hard to earn money,” Thumann said. “We don’t want to leave them behind.”
The Steele’s fundraiser culminates with the donation presentation and a live broadcast on Nov. 1 from 3 to 5 p.m., with a live broadcast by Townsquare Media. Thumann said portions of the band will attend the event and perform before heading to Tyler for the Dragon football match up against John Tyler.
Other businesses also have assisted with the band’s fund raising efforts.
Chili's is supporting the Golden Dragons Band Boosters by giving them 10 percent of the restaurant's sales on Oct. 15 and Nov. 18. Those dining at Chili’s on one of the corresponding nights must present a coupon to the waiter.
Fuzzy's Taco offer three days, Nov. 1-3 when it will give 10 percent of its sales to the band. A coupon will be made available in the near future.
