Beginning in 1998, Nacogdoches Blooms began the mass planting of clusters of jonquils and other heirloom bulbs throughout Nacogdoches. Through annual planting of donated bulbs the program has grown to more than 750,000 blooms, with the bulbs naturally doubling every year.
Trail development (map of Jonquil trail) began with the assistance of volunteers planting clusters of jonquils and other heirloom bulbs underneath 13 city park signs, in the public gardens around the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Sterne-Hoya Park, and Millards Crossing Historic Village. Since then clusters of bulbs have been added behind City Hall, the downtown parking lot at the corner of Mound and Main streets, Festival Plaza, the airport, along with several locations around the Loop 224. Jonquils have also been planted underneath trees in the historic downtown area.
