"Bridging the Gap”
Posted 05/28/2013

Benita Bennett from Angelina County Juvenile Probation office will be hosting an event on
June 7th at 705 Ellen Trout Drive in Lufkin. The program is called "Bridging the Gap”. All
branches of area law enforcement, community leaders, judges, etc.and at risk kids
come together in a fun informal occasion. It is a dynamic way to foster relationships with
teenagers in our community. Everyone will enjoy free hot dogs and social interaction while
helping the kids build relationships with community leaders.

Mrs. Bennett’s youth program volunteers at the Lufkin Community Garden. She is a recent
recipient of a special commendation for her program one from State Representative
Trent Ashby and the House of Representatives and the Governor of Texas Rick
Perry. This awards were in recognition for her work with this program and extraordinary
commitment to helping the youth of Angelina County is extraordinary.

Her program includes helping disadvantaged persons from all over Angelina County while
allowing the children in her program to assist. The youth become invested in the community
and learn that they can contribute something towards enriching the lives of others. In short
order the youth's self esteem rises and they develop relationships within the community
which otherwise would not be possible. This unique "out of the box model program"
lowers the likelihood these kids will be repeat offenders it could be duplicated across the
country before long. Ms. Bennett changes peoples lives old and young. Powerful
stuff!

Since, this event will be outdoors and casual. Mrs. Bennet is in need of tents and/or
canopies plus donations of drinks, hot dogs, chips etc... for the day of the event. She will
also be asking area business to help in donations of food and drinks. Businesses who
would like for us to distribute things like frisbee's and such with their marketing logo can
contact Ms. Bennett for arrangements regarding those items. This is their day and we are
there to provide support to them. We would love if you could be a part of this potentially
life saving program for these children.

If your company would like to participate, offer assistance or even attend please contact
Mrs. Benita Bennett or cell 9035030321or email bbennet@angelinacounty.net.
