“Back to School” Summer Reading & Programs Kick Off
The Judy B. McDonald Public Library will launch its summer programs with the “Back to School” Summer Reading & Programs Kick Off event on Saturday, June 1st from noon to 2:00 p.m.
As usual the library will offer programs for teens and children, but this year the library will offer programs specifically for tweens (ages 10-12) and adults! Parents and children can sign up for summer reading programs, enjoy snacks, and play games.
Among the events taking place this summer will be the ever-popular Touch a Truck, magic shows, Steampunk jewelry making, Shark Week events, gardening with recycled materials, “bucket list” writing workshop and more. Schedules are available at the library or on the library’s website.
“The "Back to School" theme was chosen to get parents to start thinking of the summer months as a time that they can prepare their children's reading skills for the upcoming school year. Daily reading for as little as 20 minutes per day will help children and teens retain their reading skills,” says Mercedes Franks, library director.
The event will be from noon to 2 p.m. Parents and children can sign up for summer reading programs, enjoy snacks, and play games. The first summer program will be Superhero/Comic Book Drawing Workshop on Friday, May 31st at 5:00 p.m. followed by Super Hero Movie Night at 6:00 p.m.
