Nacogdoches FFA Floriculture team placed second out of 79 teams at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Floriculture contest this past weekend.

“I am very proud of all the hard work they have put in to achieve these awards,” said FFA sponsor and Nacogdoches High School agriculture science teacher Rachel Valenti.

According to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, “The event requires students to identify plant materials, tools, and pests common to the industry, demonstrate knowledge and understanding of scientific principles and management practices applied in the industry via a written exam, make observations, draw conclusions, and utilize higher order thinking skills in problem solving situations.”

Members of the team were Kelsey Matter, Sarah Prince, Madison Andrew, and Kaylin Brown.

Matter was honored as fourth high individual, Andrew was chosen eighth high individual, and Prince was selected 20th high individual out of 239 individuals.
