The 21st annual Nacogdoches County’s Opportunity for Better Learning Experience (NOBLE) banquet will be at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center at Stephen F. Austin State University.
The banquet honors Nacogdoches County high school seniors who have chosen the more rigorous recommended or distinguished program of study in their high school courses and completed a service project. NOBLE is a program of the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce education committee.
Registration begins at 6 p.m. A parent’s reception will be held in the Regents Suites A and B where light refreshments will be served, and SFA representatives will be available to provide information about the admission process. Parents will join the students at 7:15 for presentations.
Nacogdoches County NOBLE scholars are eligible to apply for one of twenty $1,000 scholarships to SFA provided by Citizens 1st Bank and the Daily Sentinel. Rex Perry Autoplex is providing two additional $1,000 scholarships and Fairchild, Price, Haley & Smith is providing one $1,000 scholarship. Scholarship applications will be available to students from area high school counselors, as well as at the banquet.
The chamber’s education committee also sponsors Great Expectations, a program that brings local business leaders to county schools to encourage students to take advanced courses, which will better prepare them for the workplace and life. The committee also co-sponsors Education Week in February. Activities included Sendero al Futuro on Feb. 4 and Download the Future, a career fair for eighth graders on Feb. 9. The education committee includes school counselors and administrators, SFA faculty and staff members, and members of the chamber of commerce.
