Vickie McMurtray recently accepted the position and responsibility of Leadership Nacogdoches alumni chair, announced Linda Foshee, program co-chair, and Paul Smith, program co-chair and Nacogdoches County Chamber vice chair.
"I am honored to have been selected for the position of Leadership Nacogdoches Alumni chair,” McMurtray said. “I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the 2004 -2005 Leadership Nacogdoches class and look forward to working with all the alumni."
McMurtray follows in the footsteps of Ron Collins who served as the Leadership Nacogdoches alumni chair for almost two decades.
“Ron Collins has continued to be a strong supporter of the Leadership Nacogdoches program, both through his continued service as chair of the alumni group and through sponsorship each session of a participant from Regions Bank,” Foshee said. “Volunteers like Ron are the heart of Leadership Nacogdoches, as well as other Chamber programs, and we appreciate his commitment to the program.”
"It has certainly been my privilege to serve as Chairman of the Leadership Nacogdoches alumni,” said Collins. “It is a special group that includes many of our best leaders in Nacogdoches and the surrounding area. Vickie McMurtray is one of those leaders and we are very fortunate to have her agreeing to step up and lead us forward to the future I look forward to working with Vickie and the rest of our alumni as we have opportunities to further improve things in Nacogdoches County.”
One of the first duties for McMurtray will be working with program alumnus and Chamber volunteer Robin Dawley, preparing for the Leadership Nacogdoches Alumni Reception and New Class Welcome scheduled for 5:30 p.m., Thursday, August 21, at Liberty Hall.
Leadership Nacogdoches is a nine-month program produced by the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce. More than 300 people have graduated from the program since its establishment in 1982. It is designed to provide information about municipal, county and state government, and the responsibilities of leadership positions in an effort to create a pool of potential community leaders.
The Chamber is accepting applications for the 2008-09 class, and more program information and applications may be found at www.nacogdoches.org. Deadline to submit an application is July 15.
