Etech brings 150 jobs

After 11 years, Etech Inc. is going strong, according to Chief Operating Officer Matt Rocco, and the latest hiring of 150 employees is just one example.

"One of our phone companies, and I really can't say names, needed to move some customer service work here to Nacogdoches that was previously being handled elsewhere by another company," Rocco said.

That brought 100 permanent jobs to Nacogdoches, for which the company is currently hiring. Another 50 jobs have also been brought in from a retailer that is expanding.

The phone account will be a combination of phone and online chat representatives, he said.

The company currently has between 500 and 600 employees, and these additional jobs will bring Etech just about to capacity at its current location on Stallings Drive.

"Etech is a great story for Nacogdoches," Economic Development Corporation President and CEO Bill King said. "When the company was recruited to Nacogdoches, I think the original estimate was that they would provide 100 to 150 jobs, and they have more than exceeded their initial employment objectives."

If Etech had programs running 24-7, the company could have more than 1,000 employees, but with these additional jobs, it will be at capacity.

"It's been a long time since we've been at that level, but hopefully we'll get there," Rocco said.

The company employs people of all ages and walks of life, from college students to working moms, management and even high school juniors and seniors, he said.

"We try to be as flexible as we can with schedules so we can accommodate working moms and student schedules, and we have both part-time and full-time positions open," Rocco said.

The work with this newest phone company account is full-time, while the retail work is part-time with an option for full-time after the holidays when the company is expected to expand some more, he said.

Hiring began about a month ago for the retail work, and the phone company account was finalized last week, he said.

September was the company's 11th year at its current location, and it has signed a lease for another five years, with the option for another five after that.

That's good news for the city, as the jobs offered keep people in work in a down economy where other cities are losing jobs and unemployment increases, King said.

"These are good jobs, they're jobs that come with benefits," he said.

Those benefits include: 401K with a company contribution for those who have worked at Etech for six months; medical, vision and dental insurance for those who have been employed for a year; tuition reimbursement for students who submit, every semester, their schedule and then report back at the end of the semester with grades of As and Bs; and childcare reimbursement for full-time employees of up to $100 per month and up to $50 for part-time employees, depending on the number of children enrolled in day care, said Veronica Ellison, the vice president of human resources at Etech.

"We also have a lucrative rewards program where we reward employees for their performance by providing them with a bonus, which varies based on the campaign they're assigned to," she said.

Other programs include an internal aspiring management program for those looking to stay at Etech long-term and move up in the ranks, Ellison said.
