“Our role is to reach out to Texans to inform them about the changes in health insurance due to the Affordable Care Act,” Fielding said. “In addition to our outreach program, we also have a call center for Texans who are seeking assistance in obtaining insurance or in resolving issues with their coverage.
“One of the things we talk to Texans about is a new Federal insurance program called Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Program,” Fielding said. “It is for Texans who have been without coverage for at least six months and have a pre-existing condition. They also have to be legally in the
“This is a very affordable plan,” Fielding said. “Only 2% of the Federal funds that have been set aside for this program have been expended. It was estimated that the program would enroll 17,000 Texans. There are about 2,600 Texans enrolled so far.”
“I am prepared to discuss new state and federal options to assist small business in offering insurance to their employees,” Fielding said. “The state program is a public-private partnership with UnitedHealthcare and Celtic. Rates are one third of market prices. The federal program offers incentives over a six year period for employers who want to add health insurance as an employee benefit."
