Nacogdoches CVB requesting community participation for National Travel Week event

National Travel and Tourism Week is an annual tradition for the nation’s travel community, an effort led by the U.S. Travel Association. It's a time when travel and tourism professionals unite to celebrate the value travel holds for our economy, businesses and personal well-being. As your local industry professionals, it’s our pleasure to bring this week’s focus to you in a fun and meaningful way.

For instance, did you know in 2017 alone, direct traveler spending in Nacogdoches topped $70 million? It did. The positive impact of short-term visitors in our area is a lot more than you might realize.

This year, the week is being recognized May 5-11 under the national theme "Travel Matters." To showcase the personal impact of travel, the Visit Nacogdoches team is creating a travel-inspired display that will be available for viewing throughout the week at the Charles Bright Visitors Center.

The display will include written testimonies from local community members that highlight how travel has directly influenced their lives. A photograph of the traveler or a scene from the expedition mentioned also will be included. (We’re leaving the destination to the traveler’s choosing.)

As individuals, travel is what exposes us to experiences outside the microcosms in which we move through on a daily basis,” Sherry Chaney Morgan said, executive director of the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Travel is what shapes us and molds us as human beings. It broadens our scope and gives us a greater context of the world.”

Testimonies will answer one of the following four prompts: 1.) How did a trip change how you view the world? 2.) What’s the most beautiful moment you’ve witnessed while traveling? 3.) Describe the smells and sounds of a destination you’ve visited. 4.) Describe how travel has made a difference in your life.

To submit a testimony for the display, email your response and photograph to info@VisitNacogdoches.org by Thursday, May 2.

If you missed the opportunity to submit an event (we realize the deadline fell very close to this issue’s publication date) we hope you’ll still drop by to view the display and also join us for our "Music to Lunch By" event from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, May 10, in the plaza surrounding the visitors center. The event will be an additional celebration with great food, music, and an opportunity to discuss the importance of travel in-person.
