Meet SFA regents chairman at chamber luncheon

Learn from the experiences of James A. "Jimmy" Thompson, mayor of Sugar Land and chairman of SFA Board of Regents, at the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce Fourth Friday Luncheon, noon to 1 p.m., Feb. 26 at Hotel Fredonia.

A native Texan, Thompson graduated from SFA and was a United States Air Force C-130 pilot from 1970 to 1979. Thompson is the founder and president of TEAM Associates, Inc., a manufacturer's representative sales agency servicing industrial and contractors supply distributors in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

Thompson serves locally as chairman of the Stephen F. Austin Board of Regents, originally appointed to the board in 2005 by Gov. Rick Perry.  In this role, he oversees an organization committed to creating a learner-centered environment that offers opportunities to prepare for the challenges of living in a global community.

Now serving his first term as mayor of Sugar Land, he was involved with major mobility improvements; the creation of Town Square; the development of Sugar Land Regional Airport; numerous additions to the city park system; acquisition of the land for the Brazos River Corridor; and the establishment of the University of Houston campus in Sugar Land.

Registration for the chamber Fourth Friday Luncheon is required. Complete and return a registration form found at, or call 560-5533. Lunch is $16 at the door.

Bring a business card for a chance to win $50. In addition, all Chamber members are entered in a $250 drawing, but you must be present to win. Both drawings are sponsored by First Bank & Trust East Texas.
