Garden Capital Hosting Tour of Home Gardens - moved to Sunday, May 1
Posted 04 - 29 - 2016

Due to forecasts of severe thunderstorms Saturday, the Garden Capital of Texas is moving the annual Tour of Home Gardens to 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 1.  Attendees can present their ticket at Shelley's Bakery for a complimentary dessert with lunch entree purchase any day the next week, May 2-7.

"The gracious volunteers who have agreed to open their home gardens for this tour have worked for months to prepare for this," Dawn Stover, Garden Capital Committee volunteer, said. “We wanted to move the tours to allow our volunteers the opportunity to showcase their efforts.”

Gardens featured on this year’s tour include Charles and Sharon Bradberry, 3018 Skyline Drive; Tim and Lynn Howell, 2915 Colonial Drive; Bill and Mary Louise Jobe, 305 Deerfield Drive; and the SFA Sprout Garden, 1924 Wilson Drive, on the south side of the ag building. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the Charles Bright Visitor Center, 200 E. Main St., at Shelley’s Bakery, 112 N. Church St., and at any of the home gardens on Sunday from 1 pm to 3 pm. The money raised by the tour will help fund the Garden Capital committee's tree-planting effort.

"We've had such a great response this year and have already sold more than 50 tickets," Angela Wiederhold, Garden Capital Committee chair, said. "So many people have put in so much work for this event, we hated to cancel. We are so very grateful that everyone had agreed to move to Sunday afternoon."
