Summit set to spur rural economic growth
Posted 10 - 20 - 2009
The East Texas Economic Development Summit is Thursday, Nov. 12, at Hotel Fredonia in downtown Nacogdoches. “Opportunity Is Knocking: Are You Ready?” is the theme for the day’s event hosted by Commissioner of Agriculture Todd Staples, Sen. Robert Nichols and Texas Forest Country Partnership.
"The 2009 East Texas Economic Development Summit is the perfect opportunity for local officials and business leaders from small, rural East Texas communities to learn about state programs and other resources that may apply to their particular issues,” said Nichols. “Rural Texans must treat economic development differently from urban areas and we've structured this event in a way that brings useful information specific to this region.
“Expert speakers and elected officials will discuss economic trends, higher education, workforce, community development and infrastructure. Exhibits will be staffed by folks from state agencies, lending institutions, river authorities and businesses prepared to address your concerns about your community,” Nichols said.
Keynote speaker, Ray Perryman, president of The Perryman Group, will present “Economic Outlook - U.S., Texas, and East Texas” during the summit luncheon.
Seating is limited and pre-registration is encouraged. The pre-registration fee is $50, and the deadline to pre-register is Nov. 2. Registration at the door is $75 if space is available.
