Silk screen printing workshop to be hosted at library
Posted 10 - 20 - 2015

On Monday, October 19th at 5:30 p.m., tweens and teens are invited to attend a free silk screening workshop to make t-shirts at the Judy B. McDonald Public Library. The t-shirts will feature a Makerspace logo created based on contributions from library patrons. Please call 559-2970 to register and reserve a t-shirt. This event is part of a celebration of Teen Read Week, a national literacy initiative aimed at encouraging teens to read for pleasure. Participants will receive not only hands-on experience with screen printing, but will also have a chance to check out the latest reading the library has to offer. Stephen F. Austin State University’s Art Department is providing the materials so this event can be free for participants. Assistant Professor of Art Candace Hicks and the 2D Design and Printmaking classes are demonstrating the process.

The Judy B. McDonald Public Library is thrilled to host the Makerspace program for tweens and teens. Makers are a collaborative community of all ages who share a passion for making things and who are engaged in experimentation, innovation and creativity. The Public Library’s Makerspace merges DIY, craft, art, electronics, programming, math, science and engineering into projects for both young people and their mentors. The goal is to support and grow the Maker movement in the local community through experimental play and hands-on creativity.
