East Texas Outdoor & Hunting Extravaganza
Posted 06 - 10 - 2015

The Daily Sentinel's 2nd annual Outdoor & Hunting Extravaganza returns June 27 and 28 to Nacogdoches with several new attractions, including helicopter rides, a gun and sporting goods auction and a burger-eating contest. Returning to the event this year will be exhibits of RVs, boats, trucks and ATVs.

Helibacon, a Houston company hired by landowners to reduce the feral-hog population, will be there for helicopter rides and machine-gun shoots. Attendees will be entered to win a grand prize of a two-person, two-hour hog hunt by helicopter worth nearly $4,000.

Other newcomers include Frank Addington — "The Aspirin Buster" — who will deliver his "unique brand of bow-and-arrow razzle and dazzle" to the show. The NRA is expected to have a booth at the event, and the Texas State Rifle Association "will bring out the Daisy BB inflatable shooting gallery for the Kids Zone.

Texas Snakes of Houston and Dr. Deer, James Kroll, who last year hosted "Secrets of Hunting Pineywoods Whitetails," are returning this year. Clint Pustejovsky, with Texas Snakes, brought with him 16 snakes, including Western Cottonmouth, Southern Copperhead, Texas Coral Snake, Albino Burmese Python and Western Diamondback Rattlesnake.

For the kids, there will be bounce houses, a petting zoo and rock-climbing wall, along with a 2,500-gallon fish tank for catch-and-release by Texas Junior Anglers.

A live auction on June 27 will include pistols, rifles, shotguns, ammunition, sports goods, ATVs and boats.

Admission is $5 a day or $8 for both days. Kids under 6 may enter at no cost. The kids activity corner will remain open Saturday until about 4 p.m.

On June 26, a dinner with guest speakers, including Dr. Deer, will raise money for the Veterans Resource Center at SFA. Tickets are $35 per person or $50 per couple
