Historic Landmark Preservation Committee 2014 Historic Preservation Award Winner
Posted 06 - 10 - 2015

Every year, the Nacogdoches Historic Landmark Preservation Committee seeks to honor a local preservationist, someone who has helped to preserve a piece of historic Nacogdoches. The committee examines restoration efforts that were completed the previous year, and chooses the project that shows exceptional merit in the field of historic preservation.  This year the committee had a tough decision to make as there were two highly merited projects nominated. Ultimately the Nacogdoches Historic Landmark Preservation Committee chose J.W. Ramshur for his work at 116 S. Pecan. Perky Beisel stated at a recent Historic Landmark Preservation Committee meeting that Mr. Ramshur did his research and was faced with a challenge on the front of the building. The stucco was not ideal but you deal with what you are dealt. She said that the building had also come before HLPC for Demolition by neglect and is now a thriving business. Mr. Ramshur has chosen to invest in our beautiful city and preserve the history of a local landmark, and we are thankful for the time, effort and the attractive results of Mr. Ramshur and all of our local preservationists!

Preserving a building takes patience and perseverance, and the Historic Sites Department would like to thank everyone who is involved in preserving the heritage of Nacogdoches and encourage others to follow in Mr. Ramshur’s footsteps by making the effort to create an even better version of our city!
