Recent storms have presented an opportunity to remind citizens about the importance of signing up for NacWise Alert. NacWise Alert is a mass notification service that allows city officials to send personalized messages to Nacogdoches residents in a snap. This system will allow you to receive timely notifications about emergency situations, including tornado warnings.
For many years the City has operated “tornado sirens” located around town. The sirens provided some notice but could not tell people what was happening or what to do. NacWise Alert provides voice, text and email notifications of significant events and can provide guidance as to what to do. NacWise Alert is fully operational and will completely replace the aging tornado sirens over time
The City of Nacogdoches was able to add most listed, land-line phone numbers into the system automatically. To receive notices on cell phones or on a device for the hearing impaired, citizens need to visit www.nacwise.com and create an account. Citizens can access the internet at the Judy McDonald Public Library on North Street if they don’t have access at home or at work. The simple process will allow fire, police and emergency management agencies to provide important emergency notifications in an instant.
