The decision is in and The Judy B. McDonald Public Library is pleased to announce the winners of the Third Annual National Poetry Month Contest.  In the adult category, first place was awarded to Ken Lauter for the poem, “Trailblazer”, second place went to Judith Lauter for “Trees sleep, too”, and third place was Carol Tollefson for “Language of the Heart”.  In the high school category, Karen Pittman won first place for “When I Bleed”, second place was awarded to Nereo Garduza for “Untitled”, and third place went to ToColla Holley for “Everyone Sees Trees”.  In the junior high category, Adam Engstrom received first place for “I Cannot Write a Poem”.

“We had some brilliant entries this year and we’re proud to provide an outlet for local creativity,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director.  “We also want to thank Dr. Marc Guidry of SFA for serving as our judge.  We hope the community will come out to appreciate and support our poetic neighbors.”

All poets are invited to read their work at our Poetry Month Contest Recital on Thursday, April 30th at 6:00 p.m. in the library.  Light refreshments will be served.  For more information, contact library staff at 936-559-2970.
