How-To Festival at the Public Library
Posted 01 - 30 - 2015

(Nacogdoches)  The Judy B. McDonald Public Library is excited to host the Second Annual How-To Festival at the library on Saturday, April 11th, 2015.  The library is now accepting proposals for presenters to demonstrate a skill, talent, or project.  Some examples of presentations from last year’s event include how to screen print a t-shirt, how to throw a clay pot, how to fold origami, how to make chocolate covered strawberries, how to hula hoop, how to swing dance and much more.  “We view the library as an affinity space, a center for informal learning,” says Crystal Hicks, assistant library director.  “We want to empower and enable our patrons to develop skills through creative play in a relaxed atmosphere.”  Individuals, groups and businesses are all welcome to present in a mini-session of 15 minutes to one hour.  “The How-To Festival was a great success last year with hundreds of people participating in the hands-on activities and performances,” says Mercedes Franks, library director.  “We look forward to even more community participation this year and encourage anyone to join us in sharing our talents, skills and know-how.  There’s really something for everyone and all ages.”  The event will be free of charge for the public and celebrates community-based interactive education.  Proposal forms are available online at www.ci.nacogdoches.tx.us/library or in person at the library.  For questions or more information, call or email Crystal Hicks at 936-559-2970 & hicksc@ci.nacogdoches.tx.us.
