FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Nacogdoches, Texas – September 25, 2014Brick Wall Gallery at The Liberty Bell announces People’s Choice award winners of the inaugural exhibit showing August 2 – November 14, 2014.

The Liberty Bell opened the gallery in August after months of planning, and with help of Wally Knight, a local artist and carpenter.  “Our century-old brick walls are fragile and posed a challenge to our vision of having exhibits every three months.  We could not drill into the walls each time we needed to hang something new.  Wally found a gallery system with adjustable hooks and lighting.  Once it was installed, our first call for entry was held,” stated Kati Harris, co-owner of The Liberty Bell.

Curators for the gallery are Emilie Gaultier, a graduate of SFASU, and Holly Haynes, a current student at SFASU.  Both are artists and servers at The Liberty Bell.  Emilie and Holly held the call for entry, reviewed entries and made selections on what would be shown.  Emilie commented, “We had so many wonderful entries, it was difficult to select those we would show this time.  Our challenge remains – we only have so much space!  We encouraged those that were not selected this time to enter again in November.”

Patrons of The Liberty Bell and friends and supporters of the artists attended a reception held for the artists and voted for People’s Choice.  “Patrons were very interested in meeting the artists.  We knew it would be close between the top contenders, but each piece received votes,” said Harris.

People’s Choice winner is “Red Girl” by Dixie Rose Daniels.  Based on a photograph of the artist, it is acrylic, oil and paper on recycled canvas.  “Red Girl came to us as unnamed, but we spoke of it so often due to inquiries by patrons, we had to name her.  It’s a striking painting and easily stood out as a favorite,” Harris remarked.  The runner-up for People’s Choice is “Curb Appeal,” a photo taken by Cynthia Hughes.  It’s of a weathered wheel on a classic car Hughes spotted while at Garcia’s Kitchen on Route 66.  Ms. Hughes notes with her submission included, “I was fascinated by the weathered wheel.  The hues were subtle and at the same time, brilliant, like the New Mexico sky at sunset.”

The People’s Choice winners as well as the rest of the exhibit will be on display and for sale until November 14th.  Artists receive 100% of sales.  The next call for entry has started.  Deadline for submissions is November 5th by 5pm.  Artists can visit www.libertybellbar.com and click on the Brick Wall Gallery link to enter or for more information.  There is also a facebook page for the gallery.

Brick Wall Gallery at The Liberty Bell is located in the heart of historic downtown Nacogdoches.  The Liberty Bell is a bar, restaurant and music venue with a robust wine and craft beer list, full food menu and upscale-casual environment.
