The Nacogdoches High School 2014 seniors set a record for scholarship money received with students earning scholarships that totalled nearly $4.4 million.

The scholarships and other honors were announced on Tuesday, May 27, during a ceremony at the high school.

Scholarships amounts ranged from $200 to $212,000, and last year’s total by $813,202. The “Top Ten” ranking students in the class accounted for $1.568 million of the total.

Each organization had different requirements that students must reach to qualify for their scholarship. Most requirements included GPA, class rank, participation in extracurricular activities, and community involvement.

Because agencies, organizations, and companies work independently, students could apply for more than one scholarship.  Some asked students’ financial information and the number of people in the student’s household attending college.

Along with the United States Military, colleges, and universities across the nation, local Nacogdoches businesses and community organizations contributed a great amount of scholarships for local students.
