The City of Nacogdoches Main Street Program is gearing up for our 2nd Story Tour event, set for Saturday, May 3rd from 2 to 5 p.m. in historic downtown Nacogdoches. The event is held in conjunction with National Preservation Month. “Preservation has played such an important role in the redevelopment of downtown that we try to do something special to honor it each year,” said Main Street Manager Sarah O’Brien. “We have not hosted this event since 2011 and we have a ton of great properties to showcase that are generally not open to the public.” In 2013 an additional eleven 2nd story residential properties were completed in the historic downtown district. Nacogdoches Main Street promotes mixed use development downtown as a crucial part of the revitalization process.
This year’s 2nd Story Tour has four properties lined up for ticket holders to tour: 203 E. Main (Above the old Kennedy’s now LPL Finacial) 104 S. Pecan (The Annie Hoya Building- soon to be Dolly’s Diner) , 114 E. Main (Above Coats Gallery) and 207 E. Main (Above Morning Glory Yoga Studio). Tickets are $10 and are available now and the day of the event at the Visitor’s Center, located at 200 E. Main Street. All proceeds go back to the beautification of historic downtown Nacogdoches. “This is a great opportunity to spend the day downtown shopping, experiencing the “Living History” at Oak Grove Cemetery and sneaking an insiders look into downtown residential living,” said O’Brien. The four properties lined up for 2014, demonstrate a recent mixed use development, showcases a completed project that was previously on the tour in 2011 under construction, a long time residential dwelling that has recently received a facelift, and two new apartments still under construction that will soon be available for lease.
