Great Expectations, a program of the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce Education Committee, has concluded for the Spring 2009 schedule. During February and March volunteers spoke to each eighth grade student in Nacogdoches County by visiting classes at the various schools.
Presenters encouraged students to graduate and to push themselves a little harder, by taking recommended courses plus extra math and science and by volunteering for a service project. By doing so, each student will graduate as a N.O.B.L.E. Scholar and become eligible for up to $4,000 in scholarships to SFA.
We would like to thank all of those who participated as presenters and their employers for allowing them the time away from work to speak. Thank you to Bobby Bridwell, Coldwell Banker; Francis Spruiell, Austin Bank; John Boyette, Texas Forest Service; Gregg Nichols, Edward Jones; Patrick Lanmon, Jason Dorman, and Wayne Collier all from Commercial Bank of Texas; Jim Dunbar; KTRE TV; Debbie Tanner, Nacogdoches Safe and Drug Free; Michael Martin, NISD; Greg Holmes, Bancorpsouth; Brittany King, Etech, Inc; and Grant Harris, The Blood Center - East Texas.
More volunteers will be required next spring. Please contact us if interested in participating.
