Eighth grade students exploring careers



The third Download the Future Eighth Grade Career Fair is 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 12 in the SFA William R. Johnson Coliseum. All county schools and Nacogdoches I.S.D. are invited to participate. The purpose of the event for students to learn what careers are available for them after high school and/or college and what education and training those careers require.



 



“More businesses are needed to participate as exhibitors,” Dr. Judy Abbott, Education committee chair and dean of SFASU James I. Perkins College of Education said. “Discuss the education, certification or degrees needed to work in your industry and the steps students need to take through high school and beyond. The career fair is an opportunity for you to connect with future customers and employees, too.”



 



Download the Future is a partnership between the Nacogdoches County Chamber, Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches Economic Development Corporation (NEDCO), GenTX and county school districts and sponsored by Brookshire Brothers. What’s going on at Regents Academy



Discover more about the school that offers a classical Christian curriculum at Alive After Five hosted by Regents Academy, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 200 N.E. Stallings Dr. See what students really do in and out of the classroom and the role this school has in the community.



 



Headmaster David Bryant, faculty and board members invite you to attend for a time to network at the come-and-go reception that gives every Chamber member a chance to meet and greet others in business. Bring your business cards! Enjoy tasty treats including barbecue sliders provided by the Barbecue House and enter for a chance to win a Kindle Fire HD. All Chamber members are entered in the $600 cash drawing, but you must be present to win.

What to expect for workers and workplaces



Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce and the Pineywoods Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) invite you to Fourth Second Friday Luncheon presented by Express Employment Professionals. Marilyn Hartsook, Executive Director at Workforce Solutions Deep East Texas, is the guest speaker for the topic - 2014 Employment Outlook for Nacogdoches and Lufkin. The luncheon is from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13, at Hotel Fredonia Banita Ballroom.



 



Hartsook oversees workforce and subsidized child care services in the 12 county, deep east Texas area. She will speak about current industry and workforce trends at the local level and overall, and the importance of education and business involvement in the development of the workforce. 



 



Luncheon reservations are required and a registration form is included in this mailing and at nacogdoches.org. A secure “register and pay online” option is also available on the website. Lunch is $16, and the deadline for reservations is Dec. 13. All attendees will be entered in a $50 cash drawing, and every Chamber member is entered in a $250 drawing, but you must be present to win. Both drawings are sponsored by First Bank & Trust East Texas.
