Historic Walking Tours Are Back For Fall

NACOGDOCHES – Come hear the stories and see the sights that make up downtown Nacogdoches each Saturday in October, excluding SFA’s homecoming weekend (October 19). Downtown walking tours start at 10:30 a.m. at the Visitor Center, located at 200 E. Main St. Tickets are $2 and can be purchased beginning at 10 a.m. the day of the tour. Children 12 and under are free.

"The historic walking tours are a wonderful opportunity for locals and visitors to learn local history, legends and lore,” said Jannette Watts, Media and Community Relations Coordinator of the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Our volunteer guides are so knowledgeable and entertaining.”

Historical landmarks on the tour include the last remaining Caddo Indian burial mound in Nacogdoches, Oak Grove Cemetery, the Old Nacogdoches University Building, Milam Lodge No. 2, Zion Hill Baptist Church, the Sterne-Hoya House Museum and Library, Durst-Taylor Historic House and Gardens, and much more. The walking tours take about an hour and a half to complete.
