With National Red Ribbon week is right around the corner, Nacogdoches ISD families can participate in a nationwide contest that offers prizes to the family and their student’s school.
To enter the contest, students in kindergarten though 12th grade and their families can participate by decorating their homes’ front door, fence, or mailbox with this year’s theme “A Healthy Me Is Drug Free” and a red ribbon.
Participants will then upload a picture of the decoration to Red Ribbon web site, www.redribbon.org, between Oct. 1 and Nov. 4. Then, from Nov. 5-19, students should encourage family, friends, and classmates to vote online for their decoration at www.redribbon.org/vote.
The winner’s school will receive $1,000 for drug prevention and the family will win an iPad for their home from the National Family Partnership.
Red Ribbon week is celebrated October 23 -31. It is the biggest and oldest drug prevention program in the nation. This year’s theme, “A Healthy Me is Drug Free”, was created by a middle school student in Ohio.
Studies show that children are less at risk for drug abuse when parents and others discuss drugs and the dangers they may cause.
