Superintendent sets meeting to seek reasons parents transfer students out of district
Posted 08 - 08 - 2013

Nacogdoches ISD wants to better understand the reasons parents have transferred or are considering transferring their students out of the school district.

Superintendent Dr. Fred Hayes is inviting parents and the community to an honest and open dialogue concerning transfers on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. in the boardroom at the District Support Center, 420 S. Shawnee St.

“We understand there can be many different reasons parents move their child out of a school district,” Hayes said. “During this conversation we would like to hear about  those areas where we could do better as a district.”

Hayes said it’s important for administrators to hear the concerns of the community because, “a strong public school is the basis of a strong community. We owe it to Nacogdoches to uncover any issues and continue strengthening the district.”

Dr. Hayes came to NISD in May 2011 with the goal of preparing students for the global workplace. He has done so with the addition of several innovative programs in the past two years that focus on career and college readiness.

They include Early College High School, three elementary-level magnet schools, a larger Career and Technology Education program and Achieve Nacogdoches, which aims to have all students graduate from high school with either an industry standard certification or 24 hours of college credit.
