Nacogdoches County Chamber earns 4-Star Accreditation from U.S. Chamber
Posted 06 - 20 - 2013

The United States Chamber of Commerce yesterday awarded the Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce a 4-Star Accreditation for its sound policies, effective organizational procedures, and positive impact on the community.

“Accreditation validates a chamber as having programs that benefit their local economy and for positively influencing action in their community,” said Raymond P. Towle, IOM, CAE, U.S. Chamber Executive Director of Political Affairs and Federation Relations.  “We applaud these organizations for advancing the principles of free enterprise.”

Accreditation is the only national program that recognizes chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement. In order to receive Accreditation, a chamber must meet minimum standards in their operations and programs, including areas of governance, government affairs, and technology. This extensive self-review can take 6-9 months to complete.

“Our accreditation team was led by volunteer Daniel Alders,” said Chamber chair Angela Wiederhold. “He worked with a small group of volunteers and our entire staff to research, write and compile the information that proved our Chamber is among the best in the nation.”   Other volunteers working on the accreditation included Roby Somerford, Lee Smith, Wiederhold, Cathy White, Misty Roe and Mike Bay. Staff members include Bruce R. Partain, Kelly Daniel, Sherry Banks and Barbara Holl.

The application included extensive sections on governance, finance, human resources, government affairs, program development, technology, communications and facilities.

Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars, or 5-Stars. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is the world’s largest business federation representing the interests of more than 3 million businesses of all sizes, sectors, and regions, as well as state and local chambers and industry associations.  Local chambers operate completely independently of the national organization, but may participate in educational programs or the accreditation process voluntarily.

The Nacogdoches County Chamber’s mission is “to create an environment where business can succeed,” according to Wiederhold. The organization is a 501( c ) 6 non-profit business association supported by private business memberships and sponsorships.  “We invite businesses and individuals to join with us as we build a community by building our businesses,” Wiederhold said.
