Have you ever wondered how your city works or what is happening to your tax dollars? If so, the 2013 NAC 101 class is for you. NAC 101 is an 8 class program hosted by the City of Nacogdoches that was created to teach Nacogdoches citizens about the inner workings of our city government. Citizens enrolled in this program will learn about various city departments, citizen’s roles on boards and commissions, the city budget and a host of other topics. Presenters will include Fire Chief Keith Kiplinger, City Manager Jim Jeffers, Police Chief Jim Sevey, Public Works Manager Wayne Shepherd, and many others.
NAC 101 classes will be held every 2nd and 4th Thursday from 6:00 pm to 8:15 pm. The first class will be held July 25, 2013 and the NAC 101 graduation will be November 14, 2013. The program is open to all Nacogdoches city residents over the age of 18. Each class will cover a different topic and highlight a different department. Classes such as “Something for Everyone” will feature the Historic Sites and Main Street Departments and “We Build the City” will feature Public Works and Water Utility; of course, these are only two examples of the eight wonderful classes we have planned.
Participation in these classes will give you a greater insight into how our city operates on a day-to-day basis and can lead to future opportunities on city boards and commissions. Most importantly, participating in the NAC 101 program will make you a more well informed citizen and a better ambassador for Nacogdoches.
Applications for the NAC 101 program are currently available in the City Secretary’s office located at City Hall and can also be accessed on our city website. Applications must be returned to the City Secretary’s office by Tuesday, July 9th. The first day of class will be on July 25, 2013 and will be held in the City Council Chambers at 202 East Pilar Street. The class is limited to 20 students, so please turn in your applications as soon as possible.
