The third annual Bert Rees Christmas Lighting Contest announced

NACOGDOCHES – Think your home or business has the most festive holiday lights and decorations this side of the North Pole?

If so, enter the 3rd annual Bert Rees Christmas Lighting Contest sponsored by The Daily Sentinel and the Nine Flags Christmas Festival. The contest was named in memory of Bert Rees by his family and friends, who partially underwrite the prize winnings. Rees was a longtime entrant in the citywide lighting contest and a Christmas light aficionado. Christmas is the season of giving so now you too can help support the annual Bert Rees Christmas Lighting Contest with a gift that memorializes Bert Rees. Donate today online at www.nineflagsfestival.com and help make Nacogdoches brighter this Christmas season!

Entrants will have the opportunity to win $125 each in four different categories:

·         HOLIDAY SPIRIT AWARD

This award will go to the homeowner whose residential lighting efforts best reflect the Christmas spirit and has the best overall display.

·         REASON FOR THE SEASON AWARD

This award will go to the homeowner whose residential lighting best reflects a winter religious holiday.

·         WHITE LIGHT SPLENDOR AWARD

This award will go to the residence whose decorations reflect the most classic use of all clear lighting.

·         BEST CHRISTMAS LIGHTS EVER! AWARD

This award will go to the homeowner whose residential holiday lighting efforts reflect creativity and go above and beyond.

“The lighting contest is a great way for our residents to get involved in the Nine Flags Christmas Festival as they decorate their homes and businesses for the holiday season,” said festival chair, Lindsey Mathews.

“The competition is pretty stiff in some of our neighborhoods, but it is all in the spirit of the holidays and the festival,” continued Mathews. “We encourage anyone who is decorating a home or business this year to enter the contest and, who knows? You might walk away with a little extra spending money for the holidays!”

Entry forms will run in The Daily Sentinel November 11 – December 9. Registration is free and entry forms must be received by Friday, Dec. 14. Judging will take place Tuesday, Dec. 18, and contestants and winners will appear in the Sunday, Dec. 23 edition. Contestants can only win in one category and are encouraged to keep their lights bright through January 1 for the whole community to enjoy.
